David Bowlin, Violin

Violinist DAVID BOWLIN is active as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher.  He has been a prizewinner in both national and international competitions, including first prize at the 2003 Washington International Competition for Strings. He has performed recitals and concertos across the US, including the 2007 Carnegie Hall premiere of Mahagoni, a violin concerto written for him by Austrian composer Alexandra Hermentin-Karastoyanova..

DAVID BOWLIN is a passionate performer of traditional and contemporary music. Heis a founding member of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), which has an active national and international touring schedule in addition to educational residencies at New York University, Northwestern University, and others.  Recently the ensemble performed in Poland, Mexico, and across the United States. He is also a former member of the Naumburg Award-winning Da Capo Chamber Players, touring extensively in the US and former Soviet Union.

David was appointed to the faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2007, after serving as teaching assistant to Ronald Copes at the Juilliard School from 2002-2005.  He has given masterclasses at major institutions including Stony Brook University, Cornell University, the North Carolina School for the Arts, and the Conservatorio de las Rosas in Morelia, Mexico. 

David has performed chamber music extensively in New York, including concerts at Weill Recital Hall, Zankel Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the 92nd St. Y, Merkin Concert Hall, Miller Theater, and Symphony Space.  He has performed with members of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and recently toured with Musicians from Marlboro. Recording credits include works of Stravinsky, Webern, George Crumb, Chinary Ung, Huang Ruo, Su Lian Tan, Richard Wernick, Brian Fennelly, and Ursula Mamlok. He is also artistic director of Chamber Music Quad-Cities, an organization that brings chamber music performances to the community in eastern Iowa and western Illinois where David is a native.

David studied with Roland and Almita Vamos, Ronald Copes, Philip Setzer, Ani Kavafian, Pamela Frank, and Stephen and Kimberly Sims. He is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory, the Juilliard School, and Stony Brook University.
